All in all, it was a good fair, said Phillips County commissioners at their July 31 meeting. They were pleased with the 2012 county fair and commended the fair board for all their efforts in putting on a good fair for county residents.

In addition to the fair, commissioners stayed busy the month of July.

At their end-of-the-month meeting, they announced the county has three new employees. Dawn Worley will move from a part-time dispatcher to a full-time dispatcher, replacing Nancy Tyndal. Justin Grant will be taking the part-time dispatcher position. Michelle Klinzmann is the new part-time clerical worker in the county administration office.

Assessor Doug Kamery has presented the preliminary assessed value for the county at $60,263,860. This is an approximate increase in valuation of $3.7 million.

Commissioners met with auditor Ronnie Farmer. Their review of the 2011 audit showed the county continues to be in sound financial shape.

The county purchased a new 2006 Chevrolet 1500 pickup for use by the maintenance department. The unit was purchased at a GSA sale for $10,700.

Kinder Morgan Transmission is planning to bury an existing three-inch natural gas line lying south of Highway 6 from County Road 29 to County Road 37 west of Holyoke. The county approved an easement for burial of the line across the north side of the landfill property. They also approved four road occupancy agreements for the project.

The county approved road occupancy agreements for EAGLE-Net alliance for the burial of fiber optic line in County Roads 37 and 24.

Road occupancy agreements were also approved for PC Telcom for 40-plus miles of fiber installation in and around Holyoke and in the rural portions of the county.

Commissioners noted the county will be hosting their annual picnic for employees and volunteer board members Aug. 9 at Homesteaders Park.
