| HHS golfers tee off season |

Holyoke High School boys’ golf team began its season Thursday, Aug. 9 when the team traveled to Brush to tee it up for the first time. The boys had a good showing in their first tournament action of the year. Gage Garnas carded a 79 to place third in the tournament. Teammate Keaton Arkulari finished one shot back with an 80. Deyten Klein shot an 86 to round out Holyoke’s team score of 245 and capture third place. Kody Timm turned in a score of 104 to round out Holyoke A scoring. Holyoke’s B team finished with a team score of 350 and in 10th place. Devin Wilber shot a 109 to lead the team. Kade Hiller and Wyatt Bishop carded 116 and 125 respectively. Sterling’s A team won the tournament with a team score of 239. Mitch Smith of Elizabeth carded a 71 to capture first place. The following day, the team traveled to Burlington where they again had a nice showing. Arkulari finished in third place after shooting an 80. Garnas took fifth with an 82. Klein added an 84 which tied them for first place. However, they were given second after a scorecard playoff. Arkulari and Garnas finished in second and fourth respectively but were given third and fifth following scorecard playoffs. Three Holyoke golfers also played in the nine-hole junior varsity tournament at Burlington. Tanner Smith carded a 53, Scott Osborne 66 and AJ Brandt 67. The team was scheduled to travel to Eaton Thursday, Aug. 16 and Sterling Friday, Aug. 17. Holyoke Enterprise Aug. 16, 2012 |
