On Saturday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Phillips County Event Center commercial kitchen, CSU Extension agents from the Golden Plains Area will be presenting a workshop to teach water bath food preservation techniques.

The workshop will begin with instruction on home canning principles, altitude adjustments, equipment, headspace, processing and storage.

Participants will then work together to make fresh fruit and tomatoes into yummy jelly and tasty salsa. There is a fee to cover the cost of food and supplies. Each participant will leave the workshop with jar of jelly, salsa and a Ball Blue Book of Preserving.

With the rising cost of fresh produce, why not learn how to preserve food that is grown at home? This is an opportunity to learn to do things just like grandma and grandpa used to do. What a fun mother-daughter day!

For more information and to register, contact Tracy Trumper at the Phillips County Extension Office at 970-854-3616 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
