HHS head golf coach Garrett Gordon is very pleased with the progress his golfers have made thus far this season.
Monday, Aug. 20 the team traveled to Yuma where they captured first place after shooting some impressive rounds.
Deyten Klein took top honors after carding an 83. Teammates Gage Garnas and Keaton Arkulari helped the team to a score of 256 after shooting 85 and 88 respectively. Kody Timm was the team’s fourth golfer and carded a 99.
Holyoke’s JV team also played 18 holes. Troy Brown led with a 123 followed by Matt Golden 129, Xander Nelson 131 and Scott Osborne 133.
The team traveled to Eaton Thursday, Aug. 16 and Sterling Friday, Aug. 17. Results from the two tournaments were not available at press time.
Gordon is pleased with how practices have gone for the new golfers and incoming freshmen. They are concentrating on working with the underclassmen to get them some quality playing time in some junior varsity tournaments.
Something new this year is a gentlemen’s league set up between Holyoke, Brush, Yuma and Burlington. Holyoke currently sits in first place after winning the first two league matches.
Next year, the league will be official and make golfers eligible to be named to all-conference and all-state lists.
Golfers are scheduled to travel to Fort Morgan Tuesday, Aug. 28 for a two-man scramble. The following day the team will host a JV and Varsity league match in Holyoke at noon.
