Melissa Memorial Hospital has announced that Dr. Kevin J. Cuccinelli has joined its staff as a new family practice physician. He will be working at MMH for one week every month.

Holyoke Police Department has begun a new foster care program to help take care of the stray dog problem around town.

A drug survey in Holyoke JR/SR High School will be pursued by the building accountability committee.

Sept. 26, 2002

After months of discussion and debate, Holyoke City Council introduced an ordinance last week that seeks to clarify the city’s current junk code and allow officials to begin cleaning up the town.

Local volunteers were honored and recognized during a special Volunteerism Celebration at halftime of last Friday’s home football game. The event was sponsored by Phillips County Economic Development Corporation.

A 42-year-old from Commerce City has tested positive for the first confirmed human case of West Nile virus in Colorado.

Oct. 1, 1987

After a century of service to the community, the Holyoke Depot closed Sept. 25 after Burlington Northern Railroad opted to consolidate the car-load agency service located there to the McCook, Neb. office.

The incinerator that was installed at the Phillips County Landfill about a year ago is quite unique and was viewed last week by a representative of a Nova Scotia municipality.

The Sept. 12 benefit bike-a-thon sponsored by Iota Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi raised $826 for Melissa Memorial Hospital.

Sept. 28, 1972

Thursday, Sept. 28, there will be a class competition candlelight service on the Dragon football field starting at 7:30 p.m. in honor of the soon-to-be-defeated Julesburg Lions. A short pep rally will follow the competition.

The Phillips-Sedgwick Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will host a style show and tea at the Haxtun Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 30.

Sept. 27, 1962

Gov. Stephen McNichols was expected to arrive in Holyoke by plane this morning on a campaign trip through northeastern Colorado.

The congregation of the Holyoke Methodist Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary and annual Harvest Festival Sunday, Sept. 30 with a special service and program.

Holyoke will celebrate its 75th anniversary in May 1963, with all kinds of festivities being planned for the three-day celebration.
