Holyoke High School volleyball team continued its strong 2012 season with a win at Peetz Tuesday, Sept. 18.

They won in three sets, 25-20, 25-22 and 27-25.

Coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said it seems like they always get a slow start, especially in the Tuesday games. She said they might be down by four or five points, but they eventually kick it in gear and start playing serious to come out on top.

“Even if they’re down, they never stay down,” she said. “I was proud of them for never giving up.

She noted how a long string of serves in a row helped build the momentum for the Lady Dragons. Maddie King had a long line of great serves in the first game, and Erin Vieselmeyer added on several in a row in the second set.

In serving stats, both girls totaled 18 serves apiece for 18 points for the Dragons, and King landed three ace serves.

Also on the offensive side, King led Holyoke with 27 attacks including 10 kills. Erin Vieselmeyer set the ball 47 times including 15 set assists for kills.

Lindsay Helgoth grabbed three solo blocks and three block assists, with Erin Vieselmeyer recording four solo blocks and one assisted block.

King led passing stats with 21 serve receives and three digs.

Coach Vieselmeyer said one thing they’ve been focusing on in practice is coverage and the defensive side of the game.

She hopes Dragon fans can come support the team at their home game this Saturday.
