Hospice of the Plains honors individuals who offer extraordinary service to their organization and to the families they serve each quarter.
The Wray office recognizes the work done by J. Gordon Thomas from Paoli for the outstanding service he has provided to their patients in northeastern Colorado.
Thomas has been a volunteer for Hospice since 2011. In addition, he is an active volunteer in many other areas and especially enjoys the time he spends reading to the preschoolers in the Haxtun school.
He also volunteers time at the Phillips County Museum and delivers commodities to people in his area once a month. Thomas visits nursing homes in Haxtun and Holyoke once a week.
Since Hospice has a small number of men volunteers, Thomas has been especially valuable to Hospice. He relates well to the members of the farming and ranching community and has been willing to offer his services to rural patients in the Paoli area.
He recently had a patient who had known him as a youngster. Remembering those “old times” and the tricks they had played on each other gave both a chance to remember special memories.
All the volunteers demonstrate a great commitment to the organization, and their enthusiasm is contagious. If one is interested in joining the volunteer ranks, call 970-332-4116 for more information.
