HHS was represented well at the 2009 NJC Math/Science Contest held at the Sterling college on April 16.
Two HHS students came home with medals in their specific contest categories.
Junior Duncan Brandt received a first-place medal for critical thinking 11, and freshman Austin Killin earned a second-place medal for critical thinking 9, and received an honorable mention in geometry.
Those attaining honorable mentions include Ella Stewart and Becca Brandt, Algebra II; Stewart and Brian DeBoer, biology; Amy Krogmeier, geometry and ninth grade science; Logan Krueger, critical thinking 11; Alyssa Roll, ninth grade science; and Elise Nelson, senior mathematics.
Other HHS participants who competed in the contest were Zayra Quintana, Stephanie Ramirez, Mallory Bennett, Vanessa Nishi, Janna Smith, Sydney Nelson, Chad Stroh, Jordan Zeiler, Jeremy Loutensock, Whitni Redman, Sianna Gomez and Teanna Amaral.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from Holyoke also participated in a math/science contest at NJC the day before, April 15.
Sixth grade participants included Jentry Andersen, Rosa Ochoa, Nick Ortner, Luke Stewart, Kody Timm and AJ Brandt.
Participants in seventh grade were Trevor Dalton, Aracely Peña, Brenda Hernandez, Jarod Jaeger, Makayla Spitz and Kelsey Kramer.
Eighth graders in the contest included Matt Golden, Molly Brandt, Rachel Schneider, Brett Cumming, Ricky Guernsey and Logan Zeiler.
