Mix it Merry
For the last few years I’ve been helping out with some homemade gifts and treats for the annual Christmas Extravaganza fundraiser at the Heginbotham Library, and this year I decided to mix things up a bit with a Christmas “cookie jar.” I’ve always wanted to try one of these, so this was my perfect opportunity!
Christmas shopping is hard. That’s a fact. But food—food is always a crowd pleaser. And something homemade like this is a fun gift idea without you having to spend weeks (or months or years!) knitting a scarf or sweater that might just end up at an ugly Christmas sweater party. Unless, of course, your knitting skills are a lot better than mine!
I found this adorable recipe on Bakerella.com, and the jars are not only cute, but the cookies taste really good, too! Bakerella had made them for a birthday present, but they work for just about any occasion! Naturally, I used red and green M&Ms, fabric and ribbon since they’re for Christmas, but you can mix and match however you’d like!
I hope you didn’t eat too much turkey and pumpkin pie last week, because you are going to need your muscles for this project! Bakerella wasn’t kidding when she said you have to pack it in and pack it good! The recipe calls for chopped pecans, which you can slip in at the top of the jar (depending on how much room you have left), but I found the ingredients without the pecans fit almost perfectly!
So put on your favorite Christmas music mix, grab some jars and get to mixing!
