|Belt buckles promote Fair Queen program|

Phillips County Fair Queen Aimee Kanode, pictured at right, and Ardie Besse, are teaming up to rejuvenate interest in the Fair Queen program. Besse has been donating a belt buckle to the county fair queen for 24 years. The queen chooses her buckle which Besse orders from Montana Silversmiths Western Jewelry and Buckles. Kanode’s queen buckle is pictured on the left.
Noting much appreciation for the beautiful buckle, Kanode and her mother, Linda Nevins, have purchased a Lady in Waiting buckle, which they plan to have handed on to the new Lady in Waiting each year. It is their intent to elect a Lady in Waiting at Holyoke’s Dandelion Daze in June, and have her reign with the queen throughout the summer. This year’s Lady in Waiting will travel with Kanode and become acquainted with the queen’s role of representing the county at area Fair parades and other functions.
At the 2009 Corn Festival in Haxtun, the Lady in Waiting will assume the role of County Fair Queen.
Kanode, who will be a senior at Haxtun High School this fall, has enjoyed her role as county fair queen and hopes the Lady in Waiting program will promote further interest in participation.
