Marijuana ordinance adopted PDF Print E-mail

Phillips County Board of Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 2012-1 Monday, Dec. 31, which prohibits “the operation of marijuana cultivation facilities, marijuana product manufacturing facilities, marijuana testing facilities or retail marijuana stores within the unincorporated boundaries of Phillips County.”

County Administrator Randy Schafer noted this prohibits the retail sale of marijuana in Phillips County but does not prohibit people smoking marijuana.

The ordinance will take effect immediately upon publication of the title and amendments.

Also reported at their Dec. 31 meeting, commissioners approved updating the computer recording equipment for the office of County Clerk Beth Zilla for an approximate cost of $2,300.

The county was notified by Great Outdoors Colorado that their GOCO grant application on behalf of Holyoke Re-1J School District for a track project was not approved for the second time.

Commissioners announced Julie Worley has been hired for the vacant executive director position for Phillips County Economic Development Corporation.

The board approved a rezoning request for Aaron and Angela Powell for 10 acres in the SE 1/4 of Section 10, T7N, R44W from A-1, Agriculture Zone, to C, Commercial Zone, as recommended by the planning commission. The Powells are using the site to house their facility for a seed corn business.

Phillips County Board of Adjustments approved a variance request from Keith Sagehorn to move the front setback of 35 feet to 10 feet to position a new machine storage building.
