|Dragon Hoopsters establishing support system for B-ball|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Dragon Hoopsters is a new group that has formed in Holyoke as a basketball booster club.
The nexus of the Hoopsters is a group of parents working to establish a support system for youth to have access to the resources needed to build and maintain a strong Holyoke Dragon basketball program. As with other athletic booster organizations, the Hoopsters’ mission is to do all that it can to support successful basketball programs in Holyoke.
Ideally this support will include boys and girls at all levels from K-12. The group’s vision is to fundraise and invest resources into Holyoke’s basketball programs.
Initially, it is anticipated that this support will include the purchase of equipment, help in offsetting tournament entry fees and scholarships to camps.
The group is currently conducting fundraising activities which include a pop shot at halftime of all home basketball games and the sale of raffle tickets. The raffle, which runs through January, involves selling tickets for the chance of winning one of nine $100 prizes.
The prizes will be drawn in groups of three during the home basketball games on Jan. 19, 25 and Feb. 1. The group also plans to host a tournament in March as a fundraiser.
Once the group knows how much money they are working with this year, resources will be allocated based upon an application process, with emphasis being placed on investments which will have the greatest impact on the largest number of athletes.
