Kurt Bollinberg of Bollingberg Seed Co. in Cathay, N.D. and Brian Engstrom of Engstrom Bean and Seed in Leeds, N.D. recently announced the purchase of Jack’s Bean Company. The purchase was effective Nov. 15, 2012.
Bollingberg and Engstrom are dry bean processors who produce beans on their own farms and buy beans from their neighbors.
They became familiar with Jack’s Bean Company through a Greeley-based marketing firm, P.W. Montgomery LLC, of which they are principle stockholders. They plan to utilize the plant’s assets, including a packaging line that has recently been put back on line.
Steve Brown, long-time Jack’s Bean employee, will focus on sales and marketing, looking for ways to increase sales and add value to locally grown products.
Jerry Haynes, in addition to his duties as agronomist and grower relations, has been named plant manager. Haynes has 25 years in the dry bean industry and previously served as manager of the Holyoke facility from 1983-90.
David Clark, current popcorn mill operator, has been named plant foreman and will be in charge of day-to-day plant operations.
The new owners look forward to meeting producers and growing opportunities with Jack’s Bean Company and now have 2013 popcorn contracts available.
