Hermosillo runner-up at Lexington PDF Print E-mail
Written by Brenda Johnson Brandt

Jesus Hermosillo, wrestling at 195 lbs., claimed runner-up honors at the always-tough John Higgins Invitational Tournament in Lexington, Neb. Saturday, Jan. 19.

He scored all 19 of Holyoke’s points in the varsity tournament.

Coach Jack Garrison was pleased with Hermosillo’s performance but disappointed the team didn’t win any other varsity matches at Lexington.

“I was real disappointed, and the kids know it,” said Garrison. “I’ll take the blame; I didn’t have them ready,” he added. “We’re gonna go back to work,” he emphasized.

Only seven Dragons competed in the varsity tournament, and there were some close matches, for sure.

Spencer Kotch suffered a one-point loss in his second match of the day to oust him from the tourney. Ben Martinez and Astolfo Rojo each lost two-point decisions.

While the Dragon wrestling schedule was originally open this weekend, they picked up competition since they had to cancel out of Jan. 12 tourneys due to poor weather conditions.

Saturday, Jan. 26, the varsity Dragons will wrestle at Kiowa, while the JV team will go to Eaton.
