Mabel Denbo had a wish to take her friends at Meet & Eat in Haxtun, Phillips County AARP Chapter 1480 and Haxtun Berean Bible Church to see the eagles over at the Eagle Viewing Station at Little Ogallala Reservoir just east below the Kingsley Dam. She loved to watch all birds and always tried to get her friends to go with her. It was always put off and there was always something else going on, and then she passed away.
Her friends felt they had been robbed of her beautiful experiences and remembered her as always being active, and they still wanted to see what she found so wonderful. So her daughter Diana set up a little outing for those fine people, and with Pastor Mark at the wheel of the bus, they went to see the eagles on Jan. 21. Twenty of her friends saw the eagles, ducks, geese, pelicans and swans. Their questions were answered by Gabe Wilson, who helps run the viewing station. This was a great outing and was enjoyed by all.
Those attending are shown from left, front row, Fran Gilliland, Judy Samuelson, Diana Craven, Myra Sherwood, Frey Secrist and Ruth and Clair Pillard; and back row, Pastor Mark Phillips, Paul Wickenkamp, Paul and Sharon Weber, Teresa Phillips, Lois Griffis, Judy Timm, Carol Scheel, Donnie Jacobs, Alvin Schumann, Beverly Townsend and Esther Hendrix. Not pictured is Ivar Samuelson.
