HHS FBLA members create, strengthen junior high chapter PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

HHS FBLA members Xander Nelson and Austin Vieselmeyer are working with seventh- and eight-graders to create and strengthen the Holyoke Junior High FBLA chapter.

In 2011, the Colorado FBLA state office announced that Colorado schools would be able to open up FBLA to junior high students.

Through this new organization in Holyoke, Nelson and Vieselmeyer came together to create monthly projects to promote American enterprise to the junior high kids. They also developed the American Enterprise Project for State FBLA.

The project is based on finding new and exciting ways to teach young entrepreneurs the business skills they need to be successful in business.

The team created the following monthly projects:

September—Recruitment month.

October—Entrepreneurship education at Pumpkins and More A-Maiz-ing Farm.

November—Sales education, selling butterbraids and puffins.

December—Social responsibility, craft projects with residents of Regent Park.

January—Business communication, telecommunication modes and spelling bee.

February—Marketing, creating individual brands.

March—Entrepreneurship review, putting the pieces together with an Easter egg hunt.

The team looks forward to developing projects and working with the junior high FBLA throughout their high school years.
