Viaero Wireless was the highest bidder at the Feb. 12 public auction for the former Bank of Colorado building at 106 S. Interocean Ave. in Holyoke and plans to move its current offices from 115 N. Campbell Ave.

In an effort to exchange best practices between two electric companies, employees from Highline Electric Association made the journey to Bangalore, India to visit Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, located in the state of Karnataka in southeast India.

Ballyneal Golf Club has received certification in environmental planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, a program designed to help landowners preserve and enhance the environmental quality of their property.

The Holyoke chapter of Royal Neighbors of America was recently reorganized by a group of local residents eager to offer family-oriented activities and benefits to its members.

HHS senior Dustin Boyd, son of Randy and Lisa Boyd of Holyoke, has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with the state-level Certificate of Excellence from the 2003 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program.

Feb. 25, 1988

Beginning March 5, the new area code “719” will become part of phone numbers in the southern part of Colorado. The northern Colorado calling area will retain the “303” area code.

As of March 1, a new corporation involving the merger of the Legion and VFW will be known as the Holyoke Veterans Club. It will be located at the current site of the American Legion Club at 229 E. Denver St.

Holyoke School District Re-1J recently received two grants—one for furthering a gifted and talented program, and the other for a drug-free schools and communities program.

Feb. 22, 1973

The Holyoke chapter of FBLA chartered their second chapter on Feb. 7 at Fleming. The first one chartered by Holyoke was at Revere.

Holyoke Girl Scouts are now selling Girl Scout cookies for $1 per box.

All farmers, ranchers and businessmen are invited to attend the annual Farmer-Merchant banquet Feb. 26. The annual event is jointly sponsored by the Haxtun Commercial Club and Holyoke Chamber of Commerce.

Fifty Years Ago
Feb. 21, 1963

Six HHS freshmen—Barry Lindgren, Dennis Barth, Frank Tatanish, Drew Reimer, Andy Clark and Larry Fretchel—finished a 50-mile hike from Sterling to Holyoke in 15 hours.

Dale Reimer, Holyoke elevator operator, was elected president of the Colorado Grain and Feed Dealers’ Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Denver this week.
