As part of the upcoming Holyoke Centennial celebration, the Holyoke Lions Club is organizing the Holyoke Whisker Club. Registration fees will be $3, and the cost of shaving permits will be $5.
Holyoke Lions Club member Richard Brown was recognized Feb. 25 for his 25 years of 100 percent attendance in the Holyoke Lions Club.
Forty Years Ago
The new irrigation system at Holyoke Memorial Park, except for a few minor adjustments and testing, is ready for use this spring. The system was paid for by the W.E. Heginbotham Trust. The Holyoke Cemetery Board is planning a public demonstration of the system for later in the summer.
Vernell Meinte is honored for his 27 years with the Amherst Co-op Oil Co. He has been manager of the co-op for 25 years.
Fifty Years Ago
Paul Plummer recently accepted a position in the Holyoke Police Department, succeeding Fred Thietje, who resigned in January to become Phillips County undersheriff. Plummer was previously employed at Frank Duke Motor Co.
The Holyoke High School band, which presented its annual winter concert Saturday evening, was recently invited to play concerts in Sedgwick and Ovid and will make that tour today.
