Holyoke Dragon basketball teams hosted their first round of the Class 2A District 2 Tournament Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Winners in Tuesday’s matches will advance to the district semifinals Thursday, Feb. 28 at NJC in Sterling. Those who lose Tuesday night will not move on to the regional tournament and are done for the season.
The Lady Dragons entered the tournament with the No. 3 seed. They hosted No. 6 Burlington. The boys’ basketball squad earned a No. 4 seed and hosted fifth-seeded Wiggins Tuesday night. Results of the two games will appear in next week’s issue of the Enterprise.
Akron girls picked up the top seed and were scheduled to face off with ninth-seeded Merino Tuesday night. Merino defeated Haxtun in a Monday night pigtail game.
The winner of the Holyoke/Burlington match is scheduled to play the winner of No. 2 Yuma and No. 7 Sedgwick County Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at NJC in Sterling.
The girls’ consolation game will be played Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at NJC while the championship game will be at 1 p.m.
In the boys’ bracket the Haxtun team earned the No. 1 seed and was scheduled to take on Sedgwick County Tuesday night. The Cougars defeated Wray Monday in the pigtail game.
The winner of the Haxtun/Sedgwick County will face the winner of the Holyoke/Wiggins game Thursday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. at NJC.
The consolation game will be played Saturday, March 2 at 8:30 a.m. at NJC while the championship will be played at 11:30 a.m.
The teams that finish in the top four will move onto regionals the following weekend.
