Holyoke was hit with 7.5 inches of snow over the weekend, causing many cancellations around town. Snow began to fall Friday night and continued through Saturday. The wet, heavy snow blanketed Holyoke streets, homes and trees, as pictured at top right. With temperatures not rising above freezing from Saturday through Monday, many houses were decorated with icicles hanging from roofs, like the one pictured at top left.
Lee Smith and his son Brody took advantage of the snowfall by getting in possibly the last round of sledding for the season. The spring storm totaled .69 inches of precipitation.
The Friday round of play for the HHS girls’ golf team was postponed until Thursday, April 4. Saturday competition for HHS baseball and track were all postponed as well. The baseball team will have to wait until April 15 for their doubleheader with Sedgwick County, and the track squad will now head to Yuma for the Early Qualifier Meet Thursday, March 28.
The high school musical was postponed from Saturday night to Sunday evening, and the Dragon Hoopsters basketball tournament and the annual East Phillips County Hospital District Health Fair were both canceled.
