Phawn Carper, a senior at the University of Northern Colorado, was inducted into Mortar Board Sunday, April 7. Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for achievements in scholarship, leadership and service.
Carper is obtaining an interdisciplinary studies (elementary education) major with an emphasis in language arts. She also has a double minor in reading and psychology.
She is involved in several campus organizations, including Junior Honor Society, Bear Hug Club and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. A devoted member of the community, Carper volunteers through the Waste Not program, as well as provides clothing, food and supplies to those in need through the Adopt-A-Family organization.
Carper has been recognized for several awards, which include being on the Dean’s List for academic excellence, being a tutor for the UNC Reading Center, as well as her many volunteering experiences.
Her professor Linda Leon had this to say about her: “She brought talent, skill, a keen mind, as well as a solid work ethic to everything that she did in and out of class.”
Carper is the daughter of Gary and Paula Carper of Holyoke and is a 2009 HHS graduate.
