Musicians earn top ratings in Ogallala PDF Print E-mail

Thirty-six vocal and instrumental students in grades 5-8 recently competed in the annual Ogallala, Neb. Middle School solo and ensemble music contest. Holyoke was well represented as the students performed for an audience and an adjudicator Saturday, April 6.

In the vocal competition, Whitney Powell, Mackenzie Thompson and Tyler Lamm each received the highest rating possible of a superior 1+ for their vocal solos. Instrumentalists earning the top rating were Powell on a piano solo and Ashlyn Churchwell on a saxophone solo.

Vocal students receiving a superior 1 rating were soloists Paola Ruiz, Logan Osborne and Megan Humphreys and vocal duets Emily Krogmeier and Powell, Tyler Lamm and Drew Stewart and Kyra Loutensock and Savannah Burris.

Vocal ensembles receiving 1 ratings were Andrea Becerra, Jacky Mosqueda and Jaydy Dominguez; Krogmeier, Thompson, Osborne, Juana Penzing and Powell; and Regan Van Overbeke, Anna Jelden, Megan Humphreys, Thompson, Mackenzie Golden, Brook Prottsman, Juana Penzing, Krogmeier, Dominique Penzing, Grace Dille, Powell, Stewart and Lamm.

Receiving 2 ratings were vocal soloists Churchwell, Tori Hatton, Golden, Jessica Mosqueda, Juana Penzing, Prottsman and Kaitlyn Shafer; vocal duet Makayla Voigt and Jacky Mosqueda; and vocal ensemble Dille, Jelden, Dominique Penzing and Van Overbeke.

Instrumentalists earning 1 ratings were Keegan Shaw, piano solo (1); Michalla Drake, flute solo (1-, accompanied by Hatton); Dominique Penzing, Trey Bennett and Jarrett Woodhead, percussion ensemble (1-); Dille, Powell and Jelden, flute trio (1-); Hatton, piano solo (1-); and Lali Marquez, piano solo (1-).

Earning 2 ratings were Brenna Sullivan, Gabi Gordon and Jesus Trejo Arvizo on a woodwind ensemble and Kassidy Porter and Andrew Rivera on a baritone/clarinet duet.
