The man known as Kayakjak, Marty Hughes of Benkelman, Neb., will lend his expertise to the SCORE—Science Camps Offer Rewarding Experiences—this June.
He will teach individual sessions at Champion Lake in Nebraska June 12-14. Students in grades 1-4 will have the opportunity to explore the world of kayaking and the enjoyment it can bring from bird watching to fishing or just floating.
Kayakjak will present programs on kayaking at the SCORE summer camps this June in Nebraska.
Hughes is the state’s only kayak fishing guide, with over 42 years of angling experience. He has been a teacher and youth coach and holds a master’s degree in educational administration.
The Benkelman resident has been featured in NebraskaLand Magazine and the Omaha World Herald.
His objectives include events for wounded veterans, environmental improvements, Nebraska Game and Parks expos and promoting the interest of kayak fishing in the Midwest.
Registration is open for all camps: grades 1-2 June 10-12, grades 3-4 June 12-14 and grades 5-6 June 11-13.
