38 to receive diplomas from Holyoke High PDF Print E-mail

It is graduation time yet again, and 38 students in Holyoke High School’s Class of 2013 are slated to cross the stage Sunday, May 12 in the HHS gym.

A baccalaureate service will begin at 1 p.m. in the HHS auditorium. The service is being coordinated by Holyoke Ministerial Alliance. Pastor Merle Powell of First Christian Church of Holyoke will deliver the welcome, Pastor Gordon Penfold of First Baptist Church of Holyoke will handle the message, and the benediction will be led by Pastor Al Strauss of First United Methodist Church of Holyoke.

Commencement ceremonies will include performances by HHS choir and band members. Under the direction of Marcia Dalton, senior high choir and Select Choir will sing “Home.”

The senior high band will perform “Afterburn.” Former band teacher Pat Wiebers, who retired in 2010, will return as a guest conductor for the day.

Citizenship award winners will be recognized by American Legion Post #90 and its Auxiliary.

Counselor Summer Maloney will announce scholarships and plans while school board members Dr. Jeff Tharp and Dennis Herman will hand out diplomas. HHS Principal Susan Ortner will present the class.

Superintendent Bret Miles will give the welcome at Sunday’s graduation, and class president Ben Martinez will give the class farewell.

Valedictorians, who will also speak at the ceremony, will not be announced until Friday, May 10.

Members of the Class of 2013 are Jessica Baeza, Elissa Marie Baker, Jordan Taylor Bernard, Molly Lenae Brandt, Armando Jesus Castañeda, Gabriela Alejandra Chávez Marquez, Alyssa Brianne Cordova, Brett Matthew Cumming, Camille Elizabeth Elliott, Chandler Elaine Gerk, Matthew Dean Golden, Jaydin Thomas Goldenstein, Lindsay Morgan Helgoth.

Jesus Arturo Hermosillo, Julio Cesar Hinostroza, Genesis Iniguez, Jose Morgan Jaquez, Deyten James Klein, Michaela Ray Kleiner, Spencer Brandon Kotch, Caitlyn Rose Kramer, Alexis Ann Lenhart, Benjamin Martinez Jr., Troy Michael McAtee, Trae Steven McCallum, Leonardo Ortiz.

Christopher Nathaniel Pell, Cierra Lynn Prelle, Celeste Ramirez, Astolfo Rojo, Abigail Ruiz Juarez, Sergio Alfredo Santos Legarreta, Rachel Megan Schneider, Ryan Jesse Stark, Ana Karen Trejo Arvizo, Erin Marie Vieselmeyer, Rebecca Kaitlyn Lavon Weaver and Logan Cole Zeiler.

The Class of 2013’s motto is “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning,” by Winston Churchill. Class colors are white, silver and aqua and the flower is the plumeria.

Senior members of National Honor Society are Molly Brandt, Gabriela Chávez Marquez, Alyssa Cordova, Brett Cumming, Ben Martinez, Rachel Schneider and Erin Vieselmeyer.

Junior class grand marshals are Zuri Lopez and Trevor Dalton, while ushers are Shaylee Krueger, Eva Penzing, Ryan Parker and Logan Tharp.
