Former Holyoke administrator Dave Vondy was recently notified of his selection for induction in the 2013 Western State Colorado University Sports Hall of Fame.
This NCAA national champion wrestler and member of the Mountaineers football team is very humbled to be selected for the honor of being considered and selected for the Hall of Fame.
As a wrestler, Vondy is a four-time NCAA national qualifier, four-time academic all-American and two-time NCAA all-American. The highlight of his career came in 2001 when he entered the NCAA national tournament unranked and unseeded, going on to win four consecutive breath-taking matches to win the national championship. This also earned him the honor of being named the 2001 Colorado collegiate wrestler of the year.
A memorable moment in football came on the heels of a Mountaineer Bowl upset over defending and eventual national champion UNC Bears.
Vondy will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at an official ceremony in Gunnison Oct. 11.
