‘There’s Country in the Air’ is 2013 County Fair theme PDF Print E-mail

Cole LeBlanc won $50 for Better Beef Makers 4-H Club when he submitted the theme selected for the July 24-28 Phillips County Fair.

“There’s Country in the Air” was chosen by the fair board, who offered 4-H clubs and FFA chapters in the county the chance to win cash for submitting the winning fair theme.

Grand marshals for this year’s fair parade will be past county commissioners and their wives, Jerry and Judy Beavers and Bud and Bonnie Biesemeier.

One of the biggest changes in this year’s fair schedule lineup is the change in the time of the Junior Livestock Sale. It will be starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 this year due to the stock car races being held that night.

The buyers’ BBQ will be held in the Biesemeier Room at the Event Center following the sale.

Other new and different options this year at the fair will be a Friday Night Family Fun Night. There will be lots of fun things to do for a very reasonable price.

First off, the BBQ put on by R&B Catering will offer a kids meal at a reduced price. Activities will include frisbee golf, soccer, farm olympics, poker tournament, bingo, ATV rodeo, a dunk tank and three fun inflatables and other games.

There may be more activities added by fair time. Kids will get to do everything for a small fee, and adults will also buy a ticket for the evening fun. The poker and bingo will be separate.

Later in the evenings Friday and Saturday, the “Juke Joint Cruisers” will provide dance music, and a beer garden will be set up.

Instead of winding down on Sunday, fair activities will continue in a big way. There will be a Mexican rodeo put on by Roberto Torres of Denver who has worked with the National Western Stock Show Mexican Rodeo.

It will feature beautiful girls with their dancing horses, trick roping, bucking horses and bulls. Torres is also bringing a band for all to enjoy. The beer garden will also be open for Sunday activities.

A full schedule will be coming out soon, and fair board members invite the community to enjoy all of the activities.
