Colorado State University Golden Plains Area Extension is once again accepting registrations for their Northeast Colorado Livestock Camp. These hands-on camps will encourage youth to learn about selection, showmanship, feeding and nutrition of their 4-H livestock projects.
The Northeast Colorado Livestock Camp is hosting camps for each species at various locations around the northeast Colorado area.
The beef camp is being held in Burlington on Friday, June 7. Youth are encouraged to bring one animal as well as any show supplies that they would normally use in preparing their animal for show.
The swine camp on Monday, June 10 will be held at the Sedgwick County Events Center, and the youth are encouraged to bring any supplies (driving device and brush) they would normally use in showmanship classes. Hogs will be provided for use.
Those exhibiting sheep or goats will go to the camp in Akron on Tuesday, June 11 and are encouraged to bring at least one lamb or goat as well as any show supplies they would normally use in preparing their animal for show.
On Thursday, June 13, 4-H members will be able to attend a rabbit/poultry camp at the Yuma County Fairgrounds. Those attending the rabbit camp are encouraged to bring their rabbit as well as a small carpet and water bottle and/or frozen water bottle. Those wishing to attend the poultry camp should bring a bird if possible or just go and learn!
All of the livestock camp events and programs are open to 4-H members and adults with the registration deadline closing on Tuesday, May 28. More information can be found in the May/June edition of the GPA 4-H newsletter. Call any of the Golden Plains Area Extension offices for more information or to register for these educational camps.
