Jaws of Life used for car extrication demo PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Thankfully, it was not a real-life situation Saturday when Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department used their Jaws of Life. The local crew held a car extrication demonstration at their June 1 open house.

Above, fireman Ken Hoch uses the heavy Jaws of Life to show how to get a person out of a car after a wreck. Also helping with the demonstration are Matt Winterrowd, at left, and Lance Murray.

Bob Heldenbrand explains some of the equipment he uses as a fireman to a small crowd at the open house. In addition to the hot dog meal at the fire shed one block east of the stoplight, community members enjoyed looking at HVFD’s fire trucks and equipment. Madison and Blake Menard have some fun in the cab of the truck while in Holyoke visiting grandparents Pete and Susan Markle.
