After 10 years of repairing John Deere mowers for Holyoke’s local implement dealer, Bob Malesich, known as “the mower man,” is going solo with his new small-engine repair business for mowers, weed trimmers and chainsaws.
The Colorado Department of Agriculture has approved a request from Meristem Therapeutics to produce 30 acres of corn in Phillips County which contains the pharmaceutical protein lipase.
Twenty-Five Years Ago
A crowd of approximately 600 attended the Holyoke Air Show Saturday, June 11 at the local airport. Spectators were treated to demonstrations and displays of remote control aircraft, a display of three experimental aircraft and the featured performances of aerobatic acts by Stu Lucke, Dusty Dowd and Rocky de Vensente.
Plans to move the BOCES Communicatively Multi-Handicapped classroom to Holyoke this fall have progressed. At the Holyoke Re-1J Board of Education’s June 7 meeting, approval was given for purchase of property and a modular classroom for the program.
The Holyoke Centennial quilt is hanging at the Centennial store at 126 N. Interocean. The Centennial Commission is hopeful that the quilt can be placed in the museum after this year’s 100th birthday celebration.
Forty Years Ago
The Holyoke Lions Club was presented the District Governor’s Award as the outstanding Lions Club in District 6-E at the state Lions convention in Greeley on June 9. This is the third consecutive year the Holyoke Lions have been chosen as the outstanding club of the 35 clubs in their district.
The Great Western Producers Cooperative announced today that it had achieved sugar beet acreage sign-ups of more than 250,600 acres.
Fifty Years Ago
More than $700 in cash was taken from the Holyoke VFW building in a break-in and robbery Sunday night or early Monday.
One of the newer methods of preserving feed and grain is the sealed silo. This type of silo has recently been constructed at the Delmer Schlachter farm two miles east of Holyoke for the purpose of preserving green feed for his 35 head of dairy cattle.
