High winds, heavy rain and hail in the early morning hours of June 16 caused crop damage, downed power poles, overturned sprinklers and littered the town of Holyoke with fallen branches.

Participating in only his third hobby stock car race, 14-year-old Nicholas Newman of Holyoke won first place June 7 at the Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Neb.

First Pioneer National Bank of Holyoke and Wray is throwing a birthday bash to celebrate their 100th anniversary during Dandelion Daze on Friday, June 20.

The big Holyoke Centennial weekend July 2-4 will feature a wide variety of activities, and residents of the area are encouraged to make plans to attend.

Holyoke has been selected by the Federal Communications Commission to be the site of a new FM radio station as part of an expansion in the number of FM frequencies across the country.

The Holyoke Community Art Guild will be having a Centennial Art Show and Sale Saturday, June 25 at the Lions Club mini park in downtown Holyoke.

June 21, 1973

The Holyoke board of trustees at their regular meeting June 18 passed an ordinance to repeal the cigarette tax in Holyoke. The repeal of the cigarette tax levied by the town in 1956 becomes effective June 30.

Mrs. Ida Mae (Watkins) Murray of Amherst was recently reunited with three of her four children after being separated for 19 years after the children were adopted out in a divorce action.

June 20, 1963

Geo. F. Garland of Holyoke announced Tuesday that Holyoke’s second commercial bank, to be known as Holyoke Bank and Trust Co., will be open for business within about 90 days.

The town council at a recent meeting considered possible methods of controlling vehicle speeding, reckless driving, games of “ditch” played with autos, the breaking and scattering of bottles, etc., within the city limits of Holyoke.

After an intensive 10-day search, a cat which bit two members of the Al Klitz family on June 7 was caught alive Tuesday evening at the Gerald Miller place about two and a half miles from the Klitz place.
