Krueger pulls for charity with pop tabs PDF Print E-mail

Something as seemingly insignificant as saving the tab off the top of an aluminum can really can make a difference as Holyoke resident Joyce Krueger has discovered throughout the years. For the past 13 years, Krueger has been saving her tiny aluminum tabs to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Krueger first became aware of the project in October of 2000. She was hit with the devastating news that she had breast cancer and would need to undergo surgery and do chemotherapy. The next six weeks were spent undergoing five consecutive days of radiation followed by two days of rest.

Going to treatment at Memorial Hospital Cancer Center in Colorado Springs was a challenge for Krueger and her husband Jay Dean, as they lived so far away. The doctor at the center suggested the couple look into staying at the Ronald McDonald House about a block away.
