Vicki Conklin’s photograph of the Mississippi kite, a majestic bird with a falcon-type look not typically found further north than southern Colorado, has resulted in her being recognized on the cover of Colorado Field Ornithologists magazine.
Phillips County commissioners will hold a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Event Center on Sept. 22 at the Phillips County Fairgrounds.
Local law enforcement officials reported Tuesday morning that five arrest warrants have been issued in Phillips County District Court in connection with a multi-state drug distribution ring.
Anna Koslowske of Holyoke, the mother of Betsy Triplette of Holyoke, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sept. 29.
The three surviving children of the Rattling-Gourd family—including Patsy Church (formerly Amilie Rattling-Gourd), a former Holyoke resident and the mother of Sandy Saylor—and their families recently gathered for the first time in more than 60 years for a family “union” in Centennial. The seven Rattling-Gourd children were put up for adoption after their father was arrested for cattle rustling.
The Bradford Ranch and the Hargreaves Farm and Ranch were among 39 farms and ranches recognized as Centennial Farms at the 1988 Colorado State Fair Aug. 26 in Pueblo.
A group of 21 individuals from Germany is visiting Colorado this month on an agricultural tour and were in the Holyoke area last week. The group is being hosted by the Colorado Young Farmers.
Holyoke merchants have set aside Monday, Sept. 24 as “Country Store Night,” and stores will be open from 7-9 p.m. Merchants and employees will be dressed in western clothes, and participating merchants will offer bargain grab bags.
Showers and cooler air dominated the area during the past week. Precipitation in the amount of .76 of an inch increased soil moisture supplies on non-irrigated land but delayed the harvest of dry beans and corn silage.
Remodeling of the Garland building was begun last week and has progressed steadily since that time. The building, located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Interocean Avenue and Emerson Street, will be converted into quarters for the new Holyoke Bank and Trust Company.
A brief ground-breaking ceremony at the site of the new First Christian Church of Holyoke will be held at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
Ardie’s Beauty Barr, operated by Ardie Vieselmeyer, was opened in Holyoke earlier this week. The new business is located at 142 S. Interocean Ave., the first door south of The Enterprise.
