Border League softball tournament action is scheduled in Holyoke next week Monday through Wednesday, June 29-July 1. Two divisions will be competing in the tournament, age 9-12 and age 13-15. Holyoke makes 9-12 tourney bracket Border League added three Ogallala, Neb. teams and a Yuma team to field 10 regular-season competitors. As a result, the league split into north and south divisions. Pigtail games between #4 and #5 in the south division and #4 and #5 north division were held Monday, June 22 to determine who would advance to next week’s tournament. Holyoke girls, seeded #5S with a 2-6 season, defeated #4S Wray (4-4) to earn a tourney berth. #4N Chappell (3-5) defeated #5N Ogallala #1 (1-7) to move into next week’s tournament. Holyoke’s first-round game will be played Monday, June 29 at 12 noon against #1N Ogallala #3 (6-2). Other first-round games include #2S Yuma (5-3) vs. #3N Oshkosh (5-3), #2N Ogallala #2 (5-3) vs. #3X Haxtun (5-3) and #1S Sedgwick (5-3) vs. #4N Chappell (3-5). If Holyoke wins Monday, the girls will play at 1 p.m. Tuesday. If they lose, they will play at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The fifth-place game is scheduled Wednesday at 1 p.m., third-place game at 2:30 p.m. and championship at 5:45 p.m. 13-15 girls #4 seed Holyoke’s 13-15-year-old girls’ team is seeded fourth with a 5-5 record and will take on #5 Wray (4-6) Monday at 6 p.m. #1 Ogallala (9-1) and #2 Sedgwick (9-1) both earn first-round byes in the league tourney. #3 Haxtun (7-3) will meet #6 Oshkosh (0-10) at 7:45 p.m. Monday. If Holyoke wins Monday, the girls will play Ogallala Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. If they lose in first-round, they will meet the loser of the Haxtun-Oshkosh game for fifth place at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The third-place game will be played Wednesday at 4 p.m. and the championship at 7:15 p.m. |
