Holyoke had its first real test of the season with Cornerstone Christian Academy Friday, Sept. 20 as the Dragons played host to the Bulldogs for the HHS Homecoming football match.
Each team entered the game sporting a 3-0 record. Although the two squads were deadlocked throughout the first half, the Dragons persevered to pull off a 42-14 victory.

The Bulldogs received the ball first and used a combination of big runs and short passes to move the ball 73 yards, scoring on a 5-yard rush up the middle. The snap on the PAT was mishandled, giving Cornerstone Christian an early 6-0 lead.
The touchdown marked the first time this season Holyoke has trailed its opponent.
Holyoke started its first offensive possession with ideal field position as the Bulldogs opted to attempt an onside kick after scoring. An illegal touch by Cornerstone on the kick gave the Dragons the ball at the Bulldog 45-yard line.
A couple of big rushes moved the Dragons into the red zone. On third and goal from the 5-yard line, Holyoke quarterback Trevor Dalton found Logan Tharp open in the end zone for a touchdown. Jorge Varela added the PAT to give HHS a 7-6 edge with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter.
