HHS volleyball split a pair of home, non-league matches last week, falling to Chase County, Neb., in four sets Tuesday, Sept. 17 and blowing away Cornerstone Christian in three sets Friday, Sept. 20.

After eight matches, Holyoke is 4-4 with a 2-0 record in league play.

In Tuesday’s action, coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said the girls were once again plagued by a slow start. It wasn’t until the Lady Dragons were down 3-15 that they scored in consecutive possessions as they fell 12-25 in the opening set.

Vieselmeyer said passing was a problem throughout the match. As the girls struggled to keep up with the Chase County squad, Vieselmeyer noted they began to attack less and less.

“If you don’t have good passes, it’s hard to get a good set and kill,” said Vieselmeyer.

The second set was similar to the first with Holyoke falling behind early. The two teams traded points throughout the match, but HHS was unable to climb back from their deficit as Chase County led the entire set en route to a 25-13 win.

Holyoke had their best set by far in the third game as they controlled the scoring for a 25-20 win.
