|Workshop to cover how to grow plants on challenging sites|

It is challenging enough to deal with weather extremes in the Golden Plains area. Understanding the soil is essential to better gardening success. Join Golden Plains Extension Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for a workshop titled “Growing Plants Successfully on Challenging Sites.” The workshop will be held in the Burlington Library, located on 421 14th Street, Burlington.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
—soil quality for growing fruits and vegetables.
—growing on previously used sites—opportunities and challenges.
—soil contaminants: bioavailability and transfer.
—water management topics: rain water harvesting—can it be done and how?
