Tree inclusion debated for local mini park PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kyle Arnoldy

Holyoke City Council members discussed possible plans for the mini park located on the southeast corner by the stoplight at their recent meeting Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Council member Scott Murray disclosed to council members that Linda Langelo, a member of the mini park committee, had recently emailed him because she was concerned with the planned removal of the trees at the mini park.

In the email Langelo offered suggestions for trees which she thought would be a good fit for the area.

Some council members were skeptical of including a tree because of the problems trees have caused at the park in the past. Some trees did not survive when planted in the area, causing several replacement attempts. The roots of those that did flourish damaged the concrete.

“Personally, I don’t think we need any trees down there,” council member Kevin Scott said. Fellow council member J.C. Peckham stated that he understood her point, but thought a tree would be too much of a hassle.
