‘7 Wonders of Money’ challenge FCCLA PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

The Holyoke FCCLA Chapter traveled to Wray Wednesday, Oct. 16 for the organization’s fall conference. Twenty-three students from Holyoke attended, accompanied by chapter adviser Karen Ortner and chaperone Debbie Brandt.

Following the traditional ceremony, FCCLA members were grouped with fellow members of other Colorado FCCLA chapters to form a “family.” Each “family” consisted of five members, and each of the five “communities” consisted of 10 families.

Each of these “families” had a set $3,000 monthly income, which they were challenged to balance as they attended workshops at which they had to make “purchases.” Communities attended workshops together. There were seven workshops at the conference, which were titled The Seven Wonders of Money.

The Wonder of Transportation workshop was presented by Holyoke chapter president Brenda Hernandez, secretary Alex Yanez and student council representative Dani Brandt. In this workshop, families had five vehicle choices, and information on fuel costs, mileage, saftey features and monthly payments was provided.
