Holyoke earns a third, 2 fourths in Border League Tourney PDF Print E-mail

Five Holyoke teams played in the Border League tournaments last week, June 24-27. The tournament was an exciting close to the boys’ summer baseball season.

After five days of games, Stefan Betley, coach for the Green teams, had one team place in the tournament when Holyoke Green Little League claimed the third place title. Gold Coach Kyle Bules saw both Gold teams place in the tournament, with Holyoke Gold Babe Ruth and Pee Wee taking fourth place in their respective tournaments.

Results from the tournament are as follows:

Holyoke Babe Ruth (13-15)

Holyoke Gold Babe Ruth team entered the Border League Tournament with a 10-6 record and #3 seed. The team finished the tournament in fourth place.

Their first round game against #6 Sedgwick team was a win for the Gold team. Friday Holyoke went up against #2 seeded Oshkosh for a chance to play in the championship game. After losing to Oshkosh 4-0, Holyoke Gold went on to play #4 Wray in the third place game Saturday. Wray was triumphant, beating Hoyoke 13-6, leaving Holyoke Gold in fourth place.

Holyoke Green Babe Ruth was seeded #7, with a 4-12 record at the beginning of the tournament. Playing first against Oshkosh on Wednesday, Holyoke lost 10-0. In their second round game against Sedgwick, Holyoke had their second loss, with a 7-4 score, taking them out of the tournament.

Placing for the Babe Ruth tournament was Fleming in first, followed by Oshkosh, Wray, Holyoke Gold, Sedgwick, Haxtun, Holyoke Green and Chappell.

Holyoke Little League (11-12)

Holyoke’s only Little League team, wearing the green jerseys had a 5-5 record at the end of their season, giving them a #3 seed in the tournament and a third place finish.

Green’s first game was against Haxtun for the chance to play in the championship game. Seeded #2, Haxtun beat Holyoke 15-5, sending Holyoke to the third place game. Playing #5 Oshkosh, Holyoke Green won 8-7 to take third in the tourney.

Placing for the Little League tournament had Sedgwick taking the championship, followed by Haxtun, Holyoke Green, Oshkosh and Chappell.

Holyoke Pee Wee (8-10)

Holyoke Green was seeded #3 with a 7-5 record for the Border League tournament. Holyoke Gold had a 4-8 record and #6 seed.

In round one, Holyoke’s Green and Gold teams faced each other, Gold coming out on top, 6-4. Gold lost in round two against #2 seeded Sedgwick 7-2. Finishing the tournament in the game for third place against #5 Fleming, Holyoke Gold lost 5-3, taking fourth.

Following the Holyoke-Holyoke game, Green lost to Oshkosh 13-3. In the fifth place game, Chappell beat Holyoke Green 4-3.

At the end of the Pee Wee tournament, Sedgwick came out on top, followed by Haxtun, Fleming, Holyoke Gold, Chappell, Holyoke Green and Oshkosh.
