Holyoke Lady Dragons breezed through district pool play, sweeping Merino and Sedgwick County in straight sets at home Tuesday, Oct. 22.
“We played really well,” coach Michelle Vieselmeyer said. “We played confidently. These were two teams we had beaten before so we were confident that we could win going in.”

HHS opened the tournament with a 25-18 victory over the Lady Rams. Coach Vieselmeyer noted that the match was the girls’ most aggressive of the season as they went on the attack 36 times.
In Holyoke’s most dominant set of the night, the Lady Dragons took down Merino 25-5 in the second game. The girls continued to control the match with a 25-12 victory in the final set as Merino picked up a large chunk of their points in the match on HHS mistakes.
With momentum on Holyoke’s side, the Lady Dragons posted three more dominant sets to top Sedgwick County and secure their spot in the district tournament finals with the winners from the two other Lower Platte Activities Association sites. The win also ensured the Lady Dragons a spot in the regional tournament.
