|Corn harvest winding down|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
Holyoke’s Grainland Co-op saw a lot of activity in the past week as the local corn harvest nears completion.
Grainland Co-op grain merchandiser Steve Young estimates that the corn harvest in northeast Colorado is between 85-90 percent completed and will likely wrap up within a week.
Young reports that bushels per acre are coming in as expected or even better and test weights have been solid at between 59-60 pounds per bushel.
The moisture in the corn has been a bit high, between 19-20 percent. For this time of the year, Young said he would like to see that number closer to 17 percent but the corn just hasn’t dried out like expected.
