With strong family undertones, owner José Alvarado has big plans for La Original Espiga Dorado Market of Greeley, the new restaurant/meat market in Holyoke which opened in October.
Located at 430 E. Denver St. where Amanda’s Market/Gonzalez Mercado once stood, La Original Espiga Dorado Market of Greeley will be more than just a restaurant, according to Alvarado. The location serves as the second store for the business which is also located in Greeley.
Currently the store is serving up authentic Mexican dishes and baked goods, along with a variety of meats available for purchase. While the Mexican pastries are being brought in from Greeley almost daily, Alvarado has plans to construct a tortilla factory and bakery within the next 3-6 months.
Alvarado is not new to the business, as he opened the doors at the Greeley store nearly 20 years ago. Three years ago he handed the business over to his daughter as he explored the idea of moving to another town and starting another restaurant.
