Seven years after initially partnering with the Phillips County Arts Council to showcase the art of gardening, CSU Extension Golden Plains Area horticulture program associate Linda Langelo has been honored with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award for her work with community gardens.
Langelo was named the sole winner of the prestigious award at the state level in recognition of excellence in community engagement at the annual CSU Extension Forum in Fort Collins Tuesday, Nov. 5.
“I was excited, very excited,” Langelo said about getting the phone call that informed her of the award. “It’s almost unbelievable. This has been a seven-year work in progress.”
Langelo was nominated for the award by 4-H youth development and family consumer science agent Gisele Jefferson and received a letter of support from David Henson, director of human services in Wray.
