Plans are already beginning to take shape for the 2014 Phillips County Relay for Life event. Set to take place Friday-Saturday, June 6-7, the theme for the 13th annual event is “Finish the Fight the Reality TV Show Way.”
Teams are encouraged to dress as their favorite reality TV show for the event.
For the second year, the event will take place at the Haxtun baseball field. Teams will set up camp and walk the track into the early morning to raise money for cancer research and awareness. The closing ceremony will begin Saturday at 6 a.m.
Registration will officially kick off Saturday, March 15 at the 9News health fair in Haxtun at the community center. Teams will also be able to register at the Holyoke health fair Saturday, March 22. The event website will be activated Sunday, Dec. 1 for those looking to register early.
Team meetings for all members are planned for the third Wednesday each month at 6:30 p.m. Locations for meetings will rotate between the Haxtun Community Center and the Highline meeting room in Holyoke. The first meeting will take place Jan. 15 in Haxtun.
Bank Night will be Wednesday, June 4, with the location still to be determined. Bank Night is the designated meeting in which teams turn in all of the money they have raised for the event. Relay shirts will also be distributed at Bank Night.
The Relay committee is also looking for interested parties to fill the three vacant committee chair spots, particularly the entertainment chair.
To sign up for a team or for questions about volunteering or sponsorship for Relay, call event chair Abby Henry at 970-580-8980 or visit phillipscountyrelay.org.
