Speed and quickness will play a key role in the success of the Lady Dragon girls’ basketball team this year.
Coach Arlan Scholl described the team as being athletic with many who are medium to smaller in size, which means they will look to pressure opposing offenses and be ready to utilize their speed and quickness. A lot of time has been spent working on dribbling as all positions in the offense will be handling the ball during games.
Practice began Wednesday, Nov. 13. With 27 HHS student athletes lacing up their basketball shoes for the 2013-14 season. Holyoke will jump into action Friday, Dec. 6 in Haxtun.

“We always want to win, when we play Haxtun especially,” coach Scholl said of the upcoming rivalry match. “I think it is important to get the season off to a good start.”
Scholl noted that the team boasts several girls who have played at the varsity level in the past. Entering the season with girls who are already accustomed to the pace of varsity games is very beneficial.
“I think it is helpful that they have played in the past and actually have been on the floor in a varsity game,” Scholl said. “That experience is important for them to feel comfortable and know that they can compete at that level.”
