Six HHS swimmers competed in the Sterling girls’ swim team opening meet of the season Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Northridge, and all six local swimmers placed in either individual or relay events. As a team, Sterling defeated Northridge 145-59. “We had a great first meet,” said coach Adria Colver. “Everyone swam well despite the normal cautiousness seen at the beginning of the season,” she added. Colver emphasized it was a great beginning for newcomers to the team, as well as experienced swimmers. Individually, senior LeAnne McWilliams placed second in the 100 backstroke; sophomore Briar Bergner, second in 100 breaststroke; freshman Jordan Zeiler, third in 200 freestyle; freshman Amy Krogmeier, fourth in 200 Individual Medley; and sophomore Pamela McWilliams, fifth in 100 butterfly. In relay competition, LeAnne McWilliams swam backstroke on the first-place 200 medley relay, and Bergner swam breaststroke on the second-place medley relay team. Pam McWilliams, Zeiler and Krogmeier were all members of the third-place 200 free relay. In the 400 free relay, Pam McWilliams was part of the third-place team, and Krogmeier and Chelsy Gomez were on the fifth-place relay team.
