Holiday festivities continued last week at Holyoke High School with a beautiful concert performed by the junior and senior high bands Monday evening, Dec. 16 at the HHS auditorium.
Under the direction of band instructor Mitsuko Martinez, the high school concert band kicked off the show with “The Star Spangled Banner.”
High school band members entertained family and friends last week with some holiday favorites. Pictured from left in front are Ramon Favela on tenor saxophone and Jesus Martinez on bass guitar with Monica Dominguez and Norman Mendoza in back on percussion.
They followed with “Fanfare and Flourishes,” “Christmas Song” and “St. Petersburg March.”
The high school ensemble then took the audience to Broadway for a great medley of “Les Miserables” songs.
High school jazz band took the stage next, performing Christmas favorites “Good King Wenceslas,” “Joy to the World” and “Deck the Halls.”
New this year was the debut of a junior high jazz band. Martinez commended the students for their courage to play in a small ensemble like that, with some of them even learning new instruments this year.
