|Lady Dragon basketball goes cold in loss to Akron|
|Written by Kyle Arnoldy|
Holyoke basketball girls had a rough night in Akron, falling 29-57 Monday, Feb. 10.
“This was quite an uphill battle,” coach Arlan Scholl said. “Along with many fouls being called against us early in the game, we did not shoot well, hitting on only nine of 57 shots from the field for only 16 percent.”
HHS did a good job of breaking the Akron press early in the game, but could not convert on shots from close range. A number of fouls against Holyoke also worked against the Lady Dragons. At one point in the first quarter, Holyoke had 10 fouls compared to just one by the home team.
After the first quarter, Akron held a 16-6 lead.
Offensively, the Lady Dragons could not find a rhythm as they struggled to score. Akron continually found themselves shooting from the charity stripe as they attempted 19 free throws compared to just five by the Lady Dragons in the first half.
Holyoke was outscored 3-18 in the second quarter to trail 9-34 at half.
