Swimmers seize opportunity to compete at league PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Holyoke High School swam its 2013-14 league championship meet at the Jefferson County League Championship at Meyers Pool in Arvada Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8.

The large 16-team meet featured a combined 4A and 5A preliminary but separate 4A and 5A finals, which were held back to back during the final day.

Since Holyoke is still unattached, coach Adria Colver said the Colorado High School Activities Association graciously devised ways to accommodate the smaller 2A school into the meet format.

This allowed the local athletes to swim against the entire group during prelims. For those Holyoke swimmers who achieved a top-16 time in the 4A category, special lanes were provided during finals to the side of the main group.

Although HHS had to swim “unscored” with regard to the rest of the Jeffco teams, this plan provided Holyoke with the opportunity to have the same competitive experience during the tough two-day meet.

Coaches Colver and Aly Brinkema were grateful for the chance given to the team.
