Maelzer starts as new Star 92.3 broadcaster PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jes-c Brandt
Anyone who has recently listened to Star 92.3 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. has already heard the new voice of Holyoke’s radio station. Marc Maelzer began work at KSTH June 1, and is already enjoying his time in Holyoke and at the station.

Before starting at KSTH, Maelzer worked for two years at KJBL, a sister radio station in Julesburg. While most of his time will be spent in Holyoke, Maelzer will continue to do some work in Julesburg.

Maelzer discovered his interest in radio when he joined the campus radio station while attending Colby Community College. Soon after, he enrolled in American Broadcasting School in Oklahoma City, Okla. so he could become a full time broadcaster. Just six months after earning his degree, Maelzer took a broadcasting position at KJBL.

This summer Maelzer was promoted, making him operation manager for both KSTH and KJBL. In addition, he serves as station manager and sports director here in Holyoke.

Sports broadcasting, said Maelzer, is his favorite part. Having taken the position in Holyoke, he looks forward to working with the Holyoke and Haxtun athletes and their coaches. He’s especially excited to transition from reporting 8-man to 11-man football.

“I love doing sports,” said Maelzer, “especially at the high school level.” Support for the community and the excitement associated with HHS athletics are what make broadcasting them such a rewarding experience.

While the change from Julesburg to Holyoke is not a drastic one, Maelzer is excited to start working in the community and to add his own touch to Star 92.3.

One of his plans is to start a Saturday morning coaches show. Each week Maelzer will sit down with one of the high school coaches. Ideally the interviews will be held in local restaurants and broadcast live. It is Maelzer’s hope that doing so will allow community members to get involved.

Maelzer is happy and excited to be in Holyoke, and looks forward to bringing local news and sports to all Star 92.3 listeners.
